Abstract
The primary factor determining the value of any scholarly work is its ability to preserve its high academic standard and intellectual freshness even long after it has been written. Notwithstanding new researches, discoveries, and observations on any subject naturally cause many aspects of earlier works to become outdated, there are studies that continue to attract attention through the accuracy and originality of their conclusions irrespective of how much time has passed since their publication. Such timelessness is a characteristic feature of most works by the distinguished Azerbaijani scholar Akram Jafar. Although his significant academic studies on Azerbaijani linguistics, the problems of Turkology, Eastern poetics and the theoretical foundations of the meter of aruz were produced during the 1940s–1970s, they continue to retain their relevance, scholarly significance, usefulness, and value as sources for citation today. Akram Jafar’s study based on the Orkhon–Yenisey stone inscriptions which opens new perspectives for tracing the internal patterns of Turkic languages, identifying which words and linguistic elements have become archaic, which have survived in modern language and which remain appropriate for use today, is among those exemplary works and which, in essence, is a classic study that time has failed to wear out and the relevance of which remains preserved.
