Abstract
Currently, social media is attracting attention not only as a means of communication and entertainment but also as an alternative source of news. This study examines the key factors driving the growing role of social media in news consumption, drawing on 2025 reports and analyzing the evolving media landscapes in the United States and the United Kingdom. It provides a comparative assessment of social and traditional media, focusing on information dissemination mechanisms and credibility issues. The research highlights the advantages of social media—such as speed, accessibility, and interactivity—alongside associated risks, including misinformation, exposure to negative content, and the formation of echo chambers. Furthermore, it underscores the increasing relevance of the hybrid media model in addressing the demands of the contemporary media ecosystem. The study emphasizes the need for media organizations to adapt to ongoing transformations and for consumers to strengthen their critical thinking and media literacy in response to modern challenges.
