The study of our national press today enables us to explore and shape our national identity, to clarify historical realities, and to draw meaningful conclusions from our historical experience. This article evaluates the role of the prominent enlightener, publicist, and public figure Ömər Faiq Nemanzadə in the formation of national awakening, the dissemination of ideas of freedom, and the development of the enlightenment movement in Azerbaijan at the beginning of the twentieth century. The research considers the author’s articles published in various press outlets as significant sources for the study of national identity and the concept of independence. His journalistic legacy in the newspaper Azərbaycan—which played an essential role in promoting the ideas of national independence, strengthening the ideology of Azerbaijanism, and fostering democratic thought—represents a period in which his intellectual activity acquired a more systematic and purposeful character.The article argues that Nemanzadə viewed the progress of the people in terms of nationalization and national unity, and that his contributions remain relevant today, constituting valuable examples in the history of Azerbaijani journalism.
