Abstract
Omid Safi is a professor of Islamic studies at Duke University in the United States. His work has attracted attention with the university nominating him for its “Professor of the Year” award ten times. Umid Safi has written and published a number of books on Islam in general and Sufism in particular, based on medieval sources. His book, Memories of Muhammad, a biography of the Islamic prophet, was well-received by readers and won the Spirituality and Practice Award (2009).
His most recent book, Radical Love: Teachings from Islamic Mystical Tradition, explores the central concept of divine love in Sufism and Islamic spirituality in general, presenting profound mystical insights for a contemporary audience.
Umid Safi is a frequent guest on the “New York Times”, “Newsweek”, “Washington Post”, “Al-Jazeera”, PBS, NPR, NBC, BBC, CNN, and other media platforms as an expert on Islam. His talks, titled “Sufi Heart”, are broadcast on the “Be Here Now” network. He teaches online classes on topics such as Rumi and the mystical layers of the Quran through the “Illuminated Courses” platform, and organizes spiritually oriented meditation trips and workshops for the general public, called “Illuminated Tours”. Since 2002, he has been traveling to Turkey, Morocco, Andalusia, and other countries. These trips have become spiritual journeys attended by more than two thousand enthusiasts from more than twenty countries.
