Abstract
The author of the work “Gol ve giyah der ediyyat-e manzum-e Farsi” (Names of plants used in Persian poetry), the Iranian scientist Dr. Gholamhossein Rangchi, was dedicated to the explanation and detailed interpretation of lexical units related to the world of plants. This book was published in Tehran in 1994 (1372). The Persian language is known as the language of poetry. Since the creation of the first Persian poetic works, poets have created unique poetic examples and rich literary works describing the color, aroma and appearance of plants, especially flowers. In the works of Persian poets, the flower is a symbol of elegance, freshness and beauty, as well as a source of joy and happiness, and they interpreted it as "Amen", which touches, revives and strengthens the soul.
The goal of Dr. Gholamhossein Rangchi when writing this book was to collect and study examples of poems devoted to the plant world, written by Persian-speaking poets, from the era of the first poems to the beginning of the Mongol rule. As a result of extremely painstaking and intense work, the author created a very valuable work for researchers working in the field of linguistics, literary studies, lexicography and source studies. In this book, the author gives a detailed description, explanation and analysis of 250 different types of plants, and also compiles an interesting and useful explanatory dictionary, citing about 870 poems by approximately 75 poets.
