The first journal dedicated to oriental studies in Azerbaijan was published in the 1926 under the name “Azerbaijan State University Oriental Faculty Bulletin” (Akhbar) under the editorship of Professor Bekir Chobanzadeh and A.Bagriya. Only 4 issues of the journal were published.
The journal, began to be republished under the name “Oriental Studies” in the 1970s, twice a year.
After a long period, in 2021, the journal resumed its publication under the name “Journal of Oriental Studies of Baku State University” under the editorship of academician Rafael Huseynov. The first issue of the journal was dedicated to the great Azerbaijani poet in connection with the declaration of the “Year of Nizami Ganjavi” by the decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated January 5, 2021.
